BmxPlusMagazine Cover and story

I just got the new issue of BMX PLUS MAGAZINE for Thanksgiving and was stoked to see all the photos I shot. I think its the first time that I've had the front cover and back cover in one issue. I also have 7 pages of coverage from the Dew Tour stop in Salt Lake City.

Redline Catalog 2010

front cover of the 2010 catalog

one of the main pages of the Redline website

Over the summer I got asked to shoot the Redline catalog out in Vegas. I just received a digital copy of the catalog. I'm super stoked on how it came out. I was also informed that the cover photo I shot got a lot of attention and was talked about at InterBike. Redline also used some of my photos on their website. Enjoy!

Las Vegas is HOT!

I don't know what it is but i've been in some really hot weather. I went to Vegas over the 4th of July to shoot pictures for the 2010 Redline catalog. It was so stinkin' hot out there. I have no idea how people can actually live out there! We could only ride early in the morning and right before sunset. It averaged around 105 degrees in the middle of the day. The Redline team and I spent most of the time at the hotel pool. I promised myself that next time I was at T.j. Lavins, I would do the first jump which is a 10' drop into a 5' cement landing. I did the drop off but cased my back tire so hard that my feet blew off the pedals. I also had the chance to hang out with T.j. and the local aussies. Even though it was really hot, I had a blast hanging out with the Redline riders. Thanks again Fuzzy!

St. George is HOT!

I survived St. George in the middle of the summer. If it weren't for the pool in the backyard, I would have melted in the 114 degree heat!

Bmx Plus cover July 09

There's not enough time to tell you what has happened since the last time I did an entry. I'll post some photos of my "out of control" trip to China when I get some free time. For now I'll show you my newest cover for Bmx Plus. What you can't tell from the photo is that Cameron Wood has about 20 lbs in his backpack. Try bunnyhopping hip high with a 20 lbs on your back. Cameron is awesome and I'm looking forward to shooting more with him in the future.

Website

It's been a long time in the making, but I'm pleased to announce that I have a running website built by my own hands. A lot of frustration and sweat has gone into making this website. Hope you enjoy it (that means you too John Telford)! Oh, by the way, my son is freakin' cute! Check it out at shadhopkinsphotography.com

stinky socks

I finally found the source of my stinky apartment. Apparently this lonely pair of socks found their way into my bag during the New York trip. If these look familiar, come get them. I'm looking to freshin' up my apartment!

A long time in the making!

For the longest time I've wanted an ad for Odyssey BMX. Odyssey always has awesome photos and some of the best riders out there. in addition to the coolest ads, Odyssey always runs their ads two pages. I've had the opportunity to shoot photos with Adam Banton a number of times and seems like his pretty face gets in the magazines no mater what he does. The first time I shot with him in Utah, Adam got the front cover for BMX PLUS MAGAZINE (which happened to be one of their best selling issues that year) and the second time was a two page Odyssey ad. I can only only wonder what the third time will result in? Adam, call me a.s.a.p.

Pinhole camera

I've selected pinhole camera and lifts as my process for my alternative photography class. I've been really frustrated with my pinhole camera that has taken so much time away from me, in addition to the $20 that it cost me to build it out of legos ( I thought it would be really cool to build my pinhole camera out of legos! I should have stuck with the Stormtrooper helmet). I get images and then my camera would pull a quick one on me and give me crap. I think I have my patience and pictures under control?

Slacker

It's been over a month since the last time i've made a post. Now that I know I can go a month without making a post, it's time to start posting some stuff. I've been really busy with school, family and work. I have a photo trip to New York with my program (at the end of March) and I've been selected with three other photo students to go to China with my teacher ( John Telford at the end of April). I'm really excited, but at the same time not because I have to be without Carly and Cru for a month. I will also be missing my wife's graduation and moving to California. I'm so thankful to have a wife who understands the opportunity. Cru just recently turned 4 months. It's been really fun to watch him change over these 4 months. He's been noticing things more around him and is entertained by things around him. We just got him some board shorts for the summer!

cyanotype

After having gotten torn into pieces from my alternative teacher, I decided that it would be best to redo my cyanotype. I'm really happy with the way this picture turned out. Even though the highlights are blown out, I think it adds to the picture.

I still can't believe this invert! Beyond invert by Seth Klinger. Not bad for an on camera flash.

Not so sunny California

Photobucket
Little did I know after this photo was taken that I would be hating life. Thanks California for giving me poison oak or was it Bryan that gave me poison oak?

I was so thankful to get out of Utah over the Christmas break. At one point I wasn't sure if I would be leaving the Salt Lake Airport. The airport was a mess. Flights were being canceled, planes were tired of waiting in the air for a gate and just left, and our terminal was packed with about 3,000 people. If you don't believe me, ask Ashton. All and all it was a fun trip to hang out with family, friends and California weather.
